According to the Hindu calendar, there are 24 Ekadashi fasts observed throughout the year, each with its unique significance. Ekadashi occurs twice a month — once during the Krishna Paksha (waning phase of the moon) and once during the Shukla Paksha (waxing phase of the moon).
Significance And Benefits Of Jaya Ekadashi:
As per Hindu mythology, Lord Krishna narrated the significance of Jaya Ekadashi to Yudhishthira. Observing this fast is believed to remove poverty, eliminate fears of untimely death, destroy enemies, and bring prosperity, wealth, and blessings from ancestors.

Jaya Ekadashi 2025: Date And Auspicious Timings
According to the Hindu Panchang, Jaya Ekadashi of the Shukla Paksha in the month of Magha will begin on February 7, 2025, at 9:26 PM, and will conclude on February 8, 2025, at 8:15 PM. Since the observance follows the Udaya Tithi (predominance of sunrise time), the fast will be observed on February 8, 2025.
Auspicious Yogas On Jaya Ekadashi:
This year, Jaya Ekadashi coincides with Ravi Yoga, Bhadra Vasa, and Shivavas Yoga at night. Additionally, the alignment of Mrigashira and Ardra Nakshatra is considered highly auspicious. Worshipping Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi on this occasion is believed to fulfill all desires.
Rituals To Observe On Jaya Ekadashi:
- Wake up early before sunrise and begin the day by offering prayers to Lord Vishnu.
- Clean the house and take a bath with Gangajal-infused water.
- Wear yellow clothes and offer water to Surya Dev (Sun God).
- Perform a ritualistic worship of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi with offerings of yellow flowers, fruits, and sweets.
- Recite Vishnu Chalisa and Vishnu Stotra.
- Conclude the puja with Aarti and observe a strict fast throughout the day.
- In the evening, perform a second Aarti and consume only fruits (Phalahar).
- Chant Lord Vishnu’s bhajans and kirtans at night.
- Break the fast the next day after performing puja and donate food to the needy.
Ekadashi Fast: More Powerful Than Yagna

- Padma Purana states that even an unwilling observer of Ekadashi fast is freed from all sins and attains Vaikuntha (Lord Vishnu’s divine abode).
- Katyayana Smriti mentions that people of all ages, from 8 to 80 years, regardless of gender, must observe Ekadashi as a sacred duty.
- Mahabharata records Lord Krishna advising Yudhishthira about the significance of all 24 Ekadashis and their spiritual benefits.
