IPL 2025: ON THIS DAY, 13 years ago, KKR signed their biggest star in IPL history. WATCH.

IPL 2025: Sunil Narine, one of the biggest one-team legends in the history of Indian Premier League, was signed by Kolkata Knight Riders ON THIS DAY, 13 years ago.
Throughout these 13 years, fans have seen the evolution of the Caribbean from merely a spinner, to one of the greatest all-rounders in the history of T20's.
Sunil Narine has never played for any other franchse, and has so far won 3 IPL titles with Kolkata Knight Riders.
"2012 was a mini-auction and he had put his name in, and we said, you know if we had to go for one plaer, who would that be? Sunil Narine, let's get Sunil Narine. In our conditions, he would be brilliant. Nobody had heard of him," said Chandrakant Pandit, KKR head coach.
"Sunil's been a incredible part of our success, that championships that we have won, he has played a significant role in them," he added.
Sunil Narine reflected on the importance of confidence and backing, as the Caribbean stated that KKR has backed him on numerous occasions.
"If you can play for a team that banks on you and gives you the motivation that you can do it, that's something you are going to enjoy, something I think that you are gonna live for," said Sunil Narine.
Safe to say that Sunil Narine has indeed been the best purchase of Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL history. In his 176 matches for the franchise, the Craibbean has scalped 180 wickets, with an economy rate of 6.73 and bowling average of 25.39, alongside registering a solitary 5-wicket haul.
The 36-year-old has been handy with the bat as well, with him smashing 1534 runs with a blistering strike rate of 165.84, alongside 1 ton and 7 fifties.
"You know, for me, spin is all about deception. Deception is not always about seeing the ball spin hugely from left to right, or right to left. It's about what happens in the air and the subtleties of the drop and the drift, the bounce. If you watch the way batsman play him, very few leave the crease. They don't pick him, and they are not confident about which way the ball is spinning," said Carl Crowe, KKR spin bowling coach.
