The death toll in the stampede incident climbed to 121 with 28 others injured, as reported by news agency ANI on Wednesday, citing the Office of the Relief Commissioner.   

Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh Police registered an FIR against the organisers of the religious congregation. 'Mukhya sevadar' Devprakash Madhukar and other organisers have been named in the first information report (FIR) filed at the Sikandara Rao police station late Tuesday, a senior officer told PTI.

The FIR has been registered under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 110 (attempt to commit culpable homicide), 126 (2) (wrongful restraint), 223 (Disobedience to order duly promulgated by the public servant), 238 (causing disappearance of evidence), the officer said. Forensic experts along with dog squad collected evidence at the incident site in Hathras.

UP CM Adityanath Expresses Condolences  

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed condolences to the families of those killed in the stampede. He instructed officials to reach the accident site and carry out relief measures.

"The loss of life in the unfortunate accident in Hathras district is extremely sad and heart-wrenching. My condolences are with the bereaved family. Instructions have been given to the concerned officials to conduct relief and rescue operations on a war footing and to provide proper treatment to the injured," CM Yogi said in a post on X.

"A team has been formed under the leadership of ADG, Agra and Commissioner, Aligarh and instructions have also been given to investigate the causes of the accident.  I pray to Lord Shri Ram to give a place to the departed souls in his feet and provide speedy recovery to the injured," he added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing the Lok Sabha, expressed his grief, saying, “Information has come about the death of many people in a stampede in Hathras, UP. I express my condolences to the people who lost their lives in this incident and wish for the speedy recovery of all the injured. The administration is engaged in relief and rescue work under the state government's supervision.”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also conveyed his condolences, remarking, “I am deeply saddened by the tragic accident in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh. May God give the families of the victims the strength to bear this pain. The local administration is engaged in relief work, and I wish for the speedy recovery of the injured.”

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi expressed his sorrow, stating, “The news of the death of many devotees due to the stampede during the satsang in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh is extremely painful. I hope for the speedy recovery of the injured and urge the government to provide all possible assistance to the affected families.”

BSP Chief Mayawati criticised the administration’s handling of the event, urging a thorough investigation and adequate financial assistance for the victims' families. “It is very sad that a large number of people died and many were injured in a stampede during a religious gathering in Hathras district of UP. The government should investigate these incidents and take appropriate action,” she posted on X.
