Voting Begins In Delhi: Will It Be A Hat-Trick For Kejriwal's AAP?
While the Aam Aadmi Party is seeking a third term, trying to woo the voters through its welfare schemes and governance record, the BJP is determined to reclaim the city again after over 25 years.

Delhi has begun voting for the high-stakes Assembly elections under tight security arrangements. More than 1.56 crore eligible voters will cast their ballots across 13,776 polling stations in all 70 constituencies to decide the fate of 699 candidates. While the Aam Aadmi Party is seeking a third consecutive term, trying to woo the voters through its welfare schemes and governance record, the BJP is determined to reclaim the city again after over 25 years. Polling will end at 6 PM.
The Election Commission deployed 220 companies of paramilitary forces, including 19,000 home guards and 35,626 Delhi Police personnel, and other special security arrangements, including drone surveillance.
The high-octane campaigning ended on Monday at 6 PM. On the last day of campaigning, AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal addressed three rallies in the city, including one in Kalkaji, to woo the voters. The BJP also held 22 roadshows and rallies across the national capital. Some prominent leaders canvassing on Monday include Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and BJP chief JP Nadda. Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi held separate roadshows in Kasturba Nagar and Kalkaji in a bid to regain the lost support in the city.
BJP's campaign, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and party president JP Nadda, targeted AAP over alleged corruption, law and order, and governance failures. Some of the key issues raised by the saffron party included the liquor policy 'scam', extravagant renovation of the Chief Minister's residence, Yamuna, and unfulfilled promises.
According to the Delhi Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), a total of 1.56 crore voters are eligible to cast their votes at 13,776 polling stations. The voters include 83.76 lakh men, 72.36 lakh women, and 1,267 third-gender voters. As many as 733 polling stations have been designated for persons with disabilities to ensure accessibility.
6,980 out of 7,553 eligible voters have already cast their votes under the home voting facility. This special service began on January 24 and continued till February 4. The campaigning witnessed sharp political exchanges with the AAP branding the BJP as the Bharatiya Jhootha Party and Gali Galoch Party, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi referred to the AAP as “AAP-da” and its supremo Kejriwal as Ghoshna Mantri.
